Pre-Owned Burberry Women's Trench Coats: Heritage | JoliCloset

The Burberry women's trench coat is the maison's most iconic object. Its fabric, gabardine, was patented by Thomas Burberry in 1879; its cut was born in 1914 in the British trenches with epaulettes for insignia, D-rings on the belt for grenades and water bottle, storm flap, back pleat for movement and a tied belt. A century later, those details remain the authenticity markers. JoliCloset lists 154 pre-owned Burberry women's trench coats, authenticated by our experts, from €250 on the most accessible models.

The Heritage cuts to know

The house breaks the trench into four long Heritage cuts:

  • Kensington — the classic cut, long, generous, mid-calf, with a tied belt. The reference Burberry women's trench.
  • Chelsea — shorter and slimmer, defined waist, perfect for city silhouettes.
  • Westminster — the longest, dropping to the calf, traditionally in gabardine or a cashmere blend.
  • Waterloo — mid-length, mid-fit, the bridge between Kensington and Chelsea.

Short trenches (Pimlico, Camden) and the Daniel Lee reissues featuring the Equestrian Knight Device round out the line. See also Burberry coats, jackets and all Burberry women's clothing.

How to spot an authentic Burberry trench

The signature giveaway is the printed House Check lining in beige, red, black and white, unveiled in 1924 — always printed straight on Heritage cuts, never on the bias. Check the asymmetric storm flap, the buttoned epaulettes, the matching gabardine belt with brass buckle and the print continuation under the collar tab. For dating, the inside label moves from "Burberrys" with an S before 1999, to "Burberry London" through the 2000s and 2010s, then plain "Burberry" since the 2018 rebrand. The colour code stitched inside the pocket and the country of make (United Kingdom, Italy or Romania depending on the cut) complete the read.

Prices and pre-owned savings

A new Heritage Kensington trench retails over €2,290, and a cashmere Westminster passes €4,000. On JoliCloset, the same cuts in very good condition typically sit between €400 and €1,200 — a 50% to 70% saving on the boutique price. Archive pieces (Christopher Bailey era, early Daniel Lee, the 2018 Vintage Check reissues) appreciate year on year, particularly in the classic honey, black and stone colourways.
