Pre-Owned Versace Jewelry - Medusa, Greca, Virtus | JoliCloset

A Versace jewel announces itself in three details Gianni fixed in his Milan atelier in 1978: the full-faced Medusa cast in metal, the Greca key framing the edge, the Barocco scroll set with enamel or crystal. Our selection gathers 55 pre-owned Versace pieces between $69 and $1,682 (average $546), with 33 items graded excellent, very good or never-worn out of 55 — a condition mix tilted clearly toward the buyer.

Versace since 1978: Milan, Gianni, Donatella and Prada Group

Gianni Versace founded the house in Milan in 1978 and in 1993 made the Medusa head its emblem — a mythological nod and a stated ambition "to stop the viewer." After Gianni's murder in 1997, Donatella took creative direction and ran the house for nearly twenty-eight years, until Dario Vitale was appointed in 2025. The same year, Versace moved under the Prada Group in a sale from Capri Holdings — a repositioning back inside Italian luxury's core. For a second-hand buyer this matters: the resale market is almost entirely Donatella-era production (1997-2025).

Medusa, Greca, Virtus, Chain Reaction — the codes

The Medusa appears as a solid pendant (Medusa necklace), as an oversize stud earring, as a signet-ring motif, or anchoring a cuff. The Greca, the Greek-key meander, runs as interlocking chain link on bracelets and necklaces, usually in gold-tone or palladium-finish metal. The Virtus line, introduced in 2019, turns the V into a cross-like graphic — cleaner, more contemporary. Chain Reaction translates heavy links into rock-flavoured bracelets and necklaces. The page also holds 21 fine watches, spanning Versus sport models and house gold-steel references.

Materials, hallmarks and the pieces collectors look for

Most Versace jewellery on the resale market is high-end costume — brass with gold-tone, palladium, yellow-gold or rose-gold plating, enamel inlay, prong-set Swarovski crystal. Fine-gold pieces exist (Medusa Aeterna, capsule collections) but are rare under $1,000; spot them via the 750 (18K) or 585 (14K) hallmark. Most-searched references include the Medusa Biggie pendant, Medusa earrings, Medusa signet rings and enamelled Barocco brooches.

Authenticating a Versace piece

Four checkpoints. First, the Medusa face must be crisp: hollowed eye, distinct curls, readable snakes — a soft or shallow cast is the most common tell on a counterfeit. Second, the engraved "Versace" or "Gianni Versace" on the back plate or clasp (pre-1997 pieces almost always carry the Gianni Versace signature). Third, weight: a correctly plated brass piece feels dense in the hand — featherweight jewellery is a red flag. Fourth, for fine-gold items, the official assay hallmark. Every piece sold on JoliCloset passes expert verification before listing. Extend your Versace search with Versace bags or Versace shoes.
