Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, the Maison was dubbed "Jeweler of Kings, King of Jewelers" by King Edward VII. Our pre-owned Cartier men's watch selection gathers 75 authenticated pieces, from €544 to €60,270 (average €7,073). The split is three-fold: 63 automatic watches, 8 quartz and 4 hand-wound mechanical.
The icons on a man's wrist
The Santos, designed by Louis Cartier in 1904 for aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, remains the first modern wristwatch: square case, exposed screws on the bezel, octagonal crown set with a sapphire cabochon. The Tank (1917), inspired by Renault FT-17 tanks seen from above, set the Maison's rectangular grammar — it exists as Tank Louis Cartier (gold), Tank Française (integrated bracelet), Tank Américaine (curved case), Tank MC, Tank Must and Tank Solo. The Ballon Bleu (2007) plays the cushion-round with its sapphire cabochon tucked into the crown guard. The Pasha (1985) favours a sporty round case and chained screw-down crown. Drive de Cartier delivers a contemporary cushion silhouette; the Roadster, discontinued between 2001 and 2012, has become a collector's object.
Materials, calibres and case diameters
Modern Cartier references carry in-house calibres (1904-MC, 1847-MC) or proven ETA bases for vintage lines. Materials span stainless steel, 18k gold (750 hallmark), two-tone steel-and-gold and platinum. Men's diameters run from about 31 mm on a Tank Louis Cartier up to 42 mm+ on a Ballon Bleu XL or Santos XL. For seller-by-seller specs, explore our full Cartier men's hub.
Authentication: serial, cabochon, secret signature
Every Cartier case-back is engraved with the reference number, a unique serial number, "Swiss Made" and the collection name. Our specialists verify the crown cabochon (sapphire, never glass), the visible Santos bezel screws that must genuinely rotate, the secret signature printed on the dial at 7 or 10 o'clock, movement finishing and original bracelet links. The red Cartier presentation box, certificate and papers lift resale value — we flag them on every listing.
