The peoples and cultures that followed one another in Mexico, including the Aztecs and the Mayans, believed that time was divided into five major cycles (or suns). The priests said that four cycles had already passed since the creation of the human race. The Mayans were part of the most advanced civilization of pre-Columbian America. They populated southern Mexico and Central America between 600 BC. J.-C and 900 years of our era. They had a sophisticated system of hieroglyphic writing, mathematics and advanced astronomy. The few codices found dealt with astrology and numerology, and all, except four, were destroyed by the Spanish conquistadors on their arrival in the years 1500. Creators of civilizations, the Maya bequeathed to humanity the keys and their vision of Natural Time.
