Superb scarf titled "Marine and Cavalry, 2 Pluviose Year III. 1795"
By Philippe Ledoux in 1966. Will be reissued in 1984 (our scarf is from this edition).
perfectly mixed historic square: golden yellow margin on a bottom forming a central circular relating a unique and historic event: January 30, 1795, the French cavalry takes the Batavian fleet frozen in Texel. Throughout the 18th century, the commercial rivalry between the three countries that are then England, Holland and France entailed numerous armed clashes.
It is in this context that the armies of the Republic in December 1794 conquered the left bank of the Rhine and Pichegru at the head of some French cavalry squadrons of hussars made prisoner the Dutch fleet blocked by ice in the harbor Helder. Unique in military annals!
The painting of this historic event by Charles Louis Mozin (1806-1862) is at the Palace of Versailles.
