Pre-Owned Louis Vuitton Alma Bag | JoliCloset

Designed in 1934 by Gaston-Louis Vuitton at Coco Chanel's request, the Alma bag embodies the most recognisable rigid-structured silhouette of the maison. Its dome shape — directly inspired by the Squire trunk — became a permanently reissued classic. JoliCloset currently counts more than 1,000 pre-owned Alma bags, across every size (Nano, BB, PM, MM, GM) and nearly every historic material of the house: Monogram canvas, Damier Ebene, Damier Azur, Epi leather, Empreinte, Vernis, exotic skins.

Alma sizes and variants

The Alma BB (23.5 × 17 × 11.5 cm) is the most requested version, delivered with a removable shoulder strap — ideal as a crossbody. The Alma PM (32 × 25 × 16 cm) is the original 1934 size, meant for top-handle wear. The Alma MM (32 × 23 × 16 cm) adds volume and a strap, the Alma GM (35 × 28 × 18 cm) answers travel needs. The rarer Nano Alma measures 19 × 14 cm. All versions share the gold-tone padlock, the double zip pulls, the metal base studs and the saddle-stitched strap (except the PM).

Leathers and canvases: a playground

The Alma is one of the few models to exist in every signature material of Louis Vuitton. Monogram canvas remains the best-seller — durable, practical, timeless. Grained Epi leather (introduced 1985) offers discreet elegance in black, navy, red, plum and seasonal colours. Vernis Monogram leather (1998) adds a glamour dimension but demands more care (ink transfer, heat sensitivity). Embossed Empreinte leather (since 2010) clothes the Alma BB in highly demanded black, navy and taupe versions. Exotic editions (crocodile, ostrich, lizard) trade at five-figure prices.

Alma retail and pre-owned pricing

At boutique, the Alma BB Monogram now exceeds $1,600, the Alma PM Monogram $1,800, the Alma BB Empreinte $2,200 and Epi versions $2,100-2,400. On the JoliCloset pre-owned market, Alma BB Monogram in good condition sit around $600-1,000, Alma PM Monogram between $700-1,200, Empreinte BB between $1,100-1,500. Epi leather in classic colours (black, navy) holds value particularly well, while Vernis in seasonal colours offers the best buying opportunities at a discount.

Authenticating an Alma bag

On Monogram versions, the pattern is strictly aligned on the central front and back axis, and symmetric on both sides. The padlock is numbered (3 or 4 digits) and the key carries the same number. Saddle stitches are in beige waxed thread on Monogram canvas, off-white on Damier Azur, tone-on-tone on leathers. The date code is engraved inside the lining (powder-pink microfiber for modern versions, orange alcantara for 2007+ reissues, brown lining for vintage models). The metal base studs must be screwed and aligned.
