I'm pleased to offer for sale this original, interesting, rare and unique LONGINES Railroad open face pocket watch from the early 30s. According to the information I received from the Longines Heritage department the original serial number 4'714'124 identifies a pocket watch in metal from 1928 fitted with a Longines manually wound mechanical movement, caliber 18.69N.
This type of pocket watch with a locomotive engraved on the cover is known as a Railroad Watch. The reason for their creation is related to the historical need for precise time measurement in railway transport to avoid accidents.
The image of a steam locomotive indicates that the watch was intended for railway employees or was produced in honor of the progress of the railway.
The watch houses a high grade cal. 18.69N with micro regulator in gilt finish, running well on 15 jewels. It is cased in a silver-nickel alloy case of elegant decoration with a unique side closure ideal for a chain and a decorated frame. Fine low dome acrylic crystal. The back depicts a Locomotive relief.
The dial is a factory original with classic 12/24 design.
White dial with black numbers and arrows. Size 48 / 8 mm. - 1.9 in.
Manual winding.
15 jewels.
Locomotive relief of the back cover.
The watch works fine and shows the correct time.
Very good vintage condition with normal for it's age traces of use.
Collectible pocket watch.
