Pre-Owned Louis Vuitton Travel Bags Authenticated | JoliCloset

Louis Vuitton was born on the road. In 1858 Louis Vuitton patented the first flat-topped, canvas-covered trunk, designed for rail and steamship travel — and the house has dressed every form of travel since. The Keepall, introduced in 1930 as a soft bag that could replace an entire trunk, remains the defining silhouette. JoliCloset lists over 1,170 authenticated pre-owned Louis Vuitton travel bags — the deepest single stock on the platform. At boutique a new Keepall 50 tops €1,800; pre-owned expect €800 to €1,500 depending on size and condition.

The Keepall, heart of the category

The Keepall (1,820+ pieces in stock) comes in 45, 50, 55 and 60 cm. The 45 is cabin-friendly, the 50 is the all-rounder, the 55 carries a long week, the 60 handles an impromptu move. The Bandoulière version adds a removable shoulder strap — often customised with a personalised luggage tag (LV hot-stamping of initials). Materials: heritage Monogram canvas, darker Damier Ebène, Damier Graphite for menswear, textured Epi, Empreinte leather, and the Virgil Abloh collaborations (pastel Monogram, Eclipse, Giant Damier). Other travel silhouettes: the vintage-style Steamer, the rigid Horizon roller, the Pegase.

Canvases and vachetta

Monogram canvas paired with natural vachetta defines the Keepall look. Vachetta darkens with sun, hand-handling and friction — a patina that is expected and often sought after. Damier Ebène avoids the vachetta question (dark-leather integrated handles). Epi and Empreinte have no vachetta at all.

Authentication: the sensitive points

The Keepall travels hard, which makes authentication critical. Our team checks: handle stitch pitch (the original Keepall has a very specific count), D-ring and padlock weight (the genuine brass LV padlock has a characteristic weight), correct zip-pull engraving (Éclair, YKK, EP depending on the era), Monogram alignment across both sides (canvas must read the same way right and left), date code format (which changed several times between 1980 and 2021), and workshop/material consistency. Post-March-2021 pieces carry an RFID chip. A Keepall with replaced handles or re-dyed vachetta is never listed as "excellent". Also browse backpacks or totes for city formats.
