The iconic check, unveiled in 1924 inside trench coat linings, moved to the outside in the 1960s as the Haymarket Check and has dressed the house's totes through every creative era since. The signature totes

The House Check tote stays the most-requested piece — beige nova or Vintage Check printed canvas, tan or black leather trim, shoulder-carry handles. Materials and condition on the pre-owned market

House Check canvas (ePVC-coated cotton) wears very well over time if stored away from sunlight — the screen print can whiten on edges with heavy use. Check corners, leather trim and the beige lining condition on canvas-and-leather totes. On full-leather totes (Banner, Bridle), patina is expected and part of the appeal — favour pieces with unbrittled handles and intact base feet.

A new House Check canvas Burberry tote retails around €1,100-€1,500 in boutique depending on size; Banner and Bridle leather totes pass €1,500.
