For his new collaboration, Louis Vuitton called on a major figure in contemporary art, New York artist Jeff Koons. Leonardo da Vinci's masterpieces, Rubens or even Fragonard have been adapted on the pieces that make up this new collection of bags and accessories, titled The Da Vinci Collection.
After collaborating with Takashi Murakami, Stephen Sprouse or Olafur Eliasson Louis Vuitton chose Jeff Koons to imagine a new collection. Famous for his monumental works in metal, the artist transposes paintings by masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Van Gogh or Rubens, this time on bags and accessories. By choosing works that are part of the collective memory, the Masters series invites the public to take a new look at the great painters by bringing them out of museums.
Jeff Koons reinterprets the iconic Monogram in metallic details, affixed to the outside of the bag and surmounting the artist's signature, a first for the House. Each creation is adorned with a bag accessory representing the Rabbit rabbit, famous work of contemporary artist, while inside are a biography and a portrait of the painter whose painting is reproduced on the bag.
To perfectly adapt the works on the accessories and fabrics of the Speedy bags, Keepal or Neverfull, Louis Vuitton has pushed the limits of its know-how and developed new techniques. This collaboration is a first step and other chapters will be part of this project aimed at celebrating the many links of the House with the history of art.
