Beautiful Clutch bag in polished royal blue stingray leather. Genuine stingray leather (exotic leather of sea ray, related to sharks) magnetic clasp, interior in leather and fabric with one zip pocket and 6 card holders. Removable chain and leather shoulder strap, can be held by hand as a clutch bag or cross-body with the shoulder strap.
Measurements: 26cmx10,5cmx4,5cm (10.2 x 4.1 x 1.7 inches). Shoulder strap length: 50cm (19.6 inches). Very good condition (2 barely visible damaged scales on the front as seen in pictures) with a dustbag.
Skin of stings and sharks is also called ‘shagreen’ and was originally used to rub, polish or file. A master leatherworker in the court of Louis XV (Jean-Claude Galuchat) first popularized the use of stingray leather, using it as veneer on a variety of items including sheaths, wig cases, perfume flacons, sewing and snuff boxes. The qualities for which this fine leather is valued are also what make it so difficult to work with. Its combination of extreme hardness and elastic softness requires great patience and skill to produce flawless products.
