Beautiful and rare silk collection square, titled "La Fontaine de Bartholdi"
Created by Dimitri Rybalychenko in 1995. Unique edition.
It is initially the city of Bordeaux which decides, in April 1857, to build a fountain for Place des Quinconces, and launches a competition in which the winner is a young sculptor from 23 ans, Frédéric Bartholdi, who will present a work inspired by the Apollo basin in Versailles, directed by Tuby.
Sadly, the Bordeaux Municipal Council does not follow up on his project and it is only in 1886, after the inauguration in New York harbor of the Statue of "Liberty Enlightening the World", that the mayor of Bordeaux will resume contact with him to relaunch the draft carried out almost thirty years earlier.
Bartholdi then finishes his fountain of the "Triumphal Char of the Garonne". The mayor of Lyon is seduced by the work, decides to buy it and the fountain is installed opposite the Town Hall in September 1892.
A century later, EN 1992, the Municipality decides to redevelop the space following the construction of a parking lot under the square, and the fountain is moved opposite the Museum of Fine Arts, which also contains a terracotta sketch of the Statue of Liberty.
the 29 September 1952, Bartholdi fountain is listed as a historic monument.
Water in sheaves reminds us of the horse, impetuous conquest of man, but also a woman and two small children on a chariot, drawn by four sea horses. It represents France (Marianne) and the 4 French rivers (horsebits).
