The "Grands Boulevards" are undoubtedly one of the symbols of Parisian life. "I like to stroll on the boulevards" there is "so much, so much to see ..." said a French song, Yves Montand, which sums up wonderfully, in a few words, the spirit of the strolling walker these broad lanes lined with trees. The Grands Boulevards originally follow the layout of the enclosures built in the 14th century to defend the city.
Four hundred years later, during the reign of Louis XIV, vast roads were created there that will become over time great centers of attraction. The theaters are so numerous and so popular that a theatrical genre is born there, called boulevard theater; in 1895, the first cinematographic projection takes place on the boulevard des Capucines, the large cafés that are installed there become the meeting places for men of wit, writers and poets ... It is there, close to the Madeleine church rue Basse-du-Rempart, which Thierry Hermès opened in 1837 his manufacture of harness and saddles.
With a delicate touch, Virginie Jamin mixes the Paris of yesterday and today, horse and carriages, elegant in walking outfit and young women in miniskirts, gentlemen and skateboarders rub shoulders as if time did not exist not. To stroll is to forget it.
A wonder that can be a great gift.
