For this delicately crafted design, Florence Manlik drew inspiration from the plates of a German album of saddlery and harnessing from the early 20th century, preserved in the Émile Hermès collection. Rooster and ostrich feathers lightly evoke the splendor of past parades, during which horse bridles were adorned with bouquets of feathers called plumets and plumes. The "tails," decorations made of horsehair, completed the ornamental displays of these colorful harnesses.
