Saint Laurent's outerwear wardrobe descends directly from Yves's Le Smoking — the tuxedo jacket borrowed from the men's wardrobe and recut for women in 1966. From that precise cut flow the contemporary wool coats, reinterpreted by Hedi Slimane in 2012 around slim silhouettes and then by Anthony Vaccarello from 2016 onward with oversized volumes, quilted puffers and shearling aviators.

The selection covers several lines. The Teddy varsity — boiled-wool bomber with leather sleeves — has become a house classic since the Slimane era. The trench in camel or black cotton gabardine keeps the architecture of Yves's historical trench. Oversized matelassé puffers, sometimes monogrammed YSL at the chest, anchor the contemporary line. The Le Smoking — coat version in black wool with satin lapels — remains the house signature. The range extends to shearling aviators, leather biker jackets, and the rare fur coats from Vaccarello's collections.

Pure virgin wool or a cashmere blend for tailoring pieces, tightly woven cotton gabardine for trenches, quilted nylon for puffers, shearling for aviators, lambskin or calf for bikers. Cuts swing between Hedi's slim silhouette and Vaccarello's oversized volumes. Satin lining with woven monogram is a range marker on premium pieces.
