Pre-Owned Gucci Mules | JoliCloset
For Gucci mules, two styles have dominated since Alessandro Michele took over: the Princetown, a flat mule derived from the Horsebit loafer with a natural fur lining (kangaroo or goat depending on the edition), and the Marmont mule, the backless version of the GG-buckled pump. Styles to know
The Princetown, unveiled in 2015, re-launched the slipper-mule trend with its Horsebit hardware. It comes in smooth calfskin, suede, GG Supreme, embroidered velvet, always with a natural fur lining (the "lamb fur lining" tag is standard). The Marmont mule carries the gold GG buckle on a backless silhouette. You'll also find a few classic Horsebit slippers, vintage Tom Ford stiletto-mules and rarer platform mules. Materials and sizing
Smooth calfskin, suede, embroidered velvet (Michele bees and tigers capsules), GG Supreme canvas, chevron-quilted leather for the Marmont. Sizes mostly cover EU 35 to 41. On second-hand Princetowns, check the interior fur condition (density, even color) and the tension of the Horsebit bit, which should sit perfectly flat without deformation.
Resale value
A new Princetown retails around €850 in boutique, a Marmont mule around €690. On JoliCloset, well-kept pairs trade between €280 and €480 — 40-60% below retail. Embroidered velvet or patent-leather Princetowns often exceed €550 second-hand. Vintage Tom Ford mules remain the most accessible from €180. Turnover is seasonal: Princetowns sell fast in autumn (back-to-school), Marmont mules in spring.
Authenticating a pair
Checks: a "Gucci Made in Italy" insole hot-stamp, a six-digit style code plus size, a metal Horsebit bit with a fine engraved line (never painted gold on plastic), even stitching on the fur lining and uniform leather grain on the upper.
