Authentication guide

Chanel revised its authentication system in April 2021, retiring the hologram sticker in favour of a ~3 cm embossed metal plate bearing an 8-character alphanumeric serial and an embedded NFC microchip, placed on an interior wall. Pre-2021 pieces carry a hologram sticker (6-digit serials up to the early 2000s, 8-digit thereafter) with a transparent overlay and X-cut corners — on small clutches it is typically on a side wall or beneath the flap lining. Key tells: the CC turnlock is three-dimensional, right C forward on top and recessed below — never flat. Lock-plate screws are flathead or a proprietary star pattern, never Phillips (a Phillips screw is one of the clearest fake tells). On the Petite Clutch and other micro formats, a CC press-stud replaces the turnlock because the scale does not allow for the mechanism. Interior stamps should read in a dense, even font — narrow, tall lettering is a common counterfeit marker.
