Loewe Puzzle Bag

The Loewe Puzzle is the manifesto bag of Jonathan Anderson's tenure at the Madrid house, designed for his very first collection in 2015. Built from sixteen leather panels, it unfolds like origami: handheld, crossbody, flat as a clutch or pulled up on the shoulder, the same bag shifts silhouette four times. Its angular architecture and diagonal zip closure tipped Loewe into contemporary luxury — JoliCloset currently carries 227 pre-owned Puzzle bags, starting around €700.

Sizes and silhouettes

The house produces the Puzzle in six formats: Nano (worn as a pendant), Mini, Small (the best-seller, 24 cm wide), Medium (29 cm), Large (35 cm) and the Edge XL travel version. Several variants coexist within that grid: the Puzzle Edge with saddle-stitched seams, the more structured Puzzle Cubi, and the softer, rounder Puzzle Hobo unveiled in 2023. Leathers and colours

The original is in classic smooth calfskin: supple tanning, founding shades of black, tan, oak and burgundy. Grained calf holds the cube structure better and shows fewer marks. Suede delivers a matte, velvety hand but is more fragile. Loewe also issues collector editions much sought-after on the secondary market — multicolour patchwork, rainbow, woven intrecciato, croc-embossed, metallic. Recent seasons added powder, sage green, blush pink and cerulean blue tones that move quickly on the platform.

Pre-owned prices and value retention

A new Puzzle Small in smooth calfskin retails above €2,950 in boutique, the Medium nudges €3,500 and the Edge XL travel version tops €4,500. On JoliCloset, pre-owned Puzzles range from around €700 for a small leather good or a well-worn Mini up to over €2,800 for a near-new Medium — a 30 to 45 % discount versus boutique retail, depending on condition and material. Limited editions (collaborations, discontinued seasonal colours) hold their value especially well on resale.

Authentication

Every Puzzle listed is reviewed by our team before publication: embossed Loewe anagram on the front panel, hot-stamped "Made in Spain" inside, engraved serial number, strict alignment of the sixteen leather panels, zip tension, leather tannage and patina consistent with the bag's age.
