Céline Classic Box Tasche

The Céline Classic Box is one of the maison's great archive comebacks. Drawn from a 1970s original, redrawn by Phoebe Philo in 2014 and kept on under Hedi Slimane, it reads through its rectangular box-calf body, its flap with the metal Sangle clasp engraved Céline, and its chain strap interlaced with leather. Our catalogue currently holds 86 authenticated pre-owned Classic Box bags, from the flat Teen to the structured Medium.

Sizes and variants

The Classic Box comes in several sizes. The Teen (24×18×7 cm) is the daily format, slim and flat, perfect on the shoulder. The Medium (27×20×8 cm) keeps the classic silhouette with slightly more volume. The Mini (~17×13 cm) targets evening. The Box on Chain, more recent, swaps the Sangle flap for a more minimal shape on a long chain. All share the same smooth, polished box-calf that develops a darker patina over time.

Leathers and colours

Smooth box-calf, the premium grade of smooth calf, is the model's historical material: taut, polished, sensitive to fine scratches but durable. Several runs have introduced grained calf, suede, snake, alligator (very rare, highly priced) or contrasted bi-tones. Hero colours remain black, burgundy, camel and deep red. Exotic editions trade for thousands of euros on the secondary market.

Buying a pre-owned Céline Classic Box: price

A new Classic Box Medium retails around €4,600. On the secondary market, plan for €900 to €2,000 depending on size, material and box-calf condition. A clean Teen sits between €1,100 and €1,600; a mint Medium often passes €1,800. Alligator and python editions can reach €6,000 to €10,000. The model stays in demand: clean silhouette plus metal Sangle clasp plus chain strap is a combination that travels across decades.

Authentication: Classic Box markers

Every Classic Box is checked before going live. Model-specific markers: weight and finish of the Sangle clasp (laser-engraved CÉLINE Paris or CELINE Paris depending on year), regular leather-chain interlacing, perfect flap alignment, box-calf quality (smooth polished leather that reflects light cleanly), interior date code on a leather tab.
