The Givenchy Nightingale is one of the defining it-bags of the late 2000s. Designed by Riccardo Tisci in 2008, it crossed the satchel and the tote into a single format — double Lampo zip with branded pulls, softly pleated "wing" sides, dual rolled handles and a removable shoulder strap — and that shape defined the house's handbag vocabulary for nearly a decade. The Nightingale has since been discontinued at retail, which has turned every clean authenticated example into a sought-after secondary-market piece. A Tisci-era it-bag

By 2008 Tisci had spent three years reshaping Givenchy Paris (founded by Hubert de Givenchy in 1952). The Nightingale crystallised his vision: a silhouette equal parts soft and structured, carried by hand or shoulder, with the heat-stamped "Nightingale" interior tag that became a period marker. Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Madonna all carried one at its peak — making it one of the most photographed Givenchy women's bags of the 2005-2017 Tisci era, before Clare Waight Keller and Matthew M. Williams took over.

Sizes and leathers

The Nightingale was produced in four sizes: Micro, Small, Medium (approx. 38 × 27 × 18 cm) and Large. The Medium remains the most collected. For leathers, smooth calfskin is the dressiest cut, grained calfskin is the more forgiving daily option, and you'll find seasonal textured calf, croc-embossed, suede and printed canvas runs. Interior lining is beige cotton canvas with a zipped slip pocket. Being a discontinued model, clean examples appreciate steadily.

At retail the Nightingale sold between €1,800 (Small) and €2,800 (Large in premium leather). Look for the woven "Nightingale" label stitched inside with the "Made in Italy" sub-line, correctly engraved Lampo double-zip sliders, the heat-stamped "GIVENCHY PARIS" brand tab on interior leather, and the embossed serial number.
