Launched by Jonathan Anderson in 2017, the Loewe Gate reinvents the equestrian saddle bag through the craft of a house founded in Madrid in 1846. Its signature: a rounded flap fastened by a Knot strap — a nod to Andalusian horsemen's reins — with the Anagram logo (the four interlocking Ls) subtly embossed at the base. We currently list 131 pre-owned Loewe Gate bags, authenticated in-house, from around €400.

1846 in Madrid: Loewe's leather DNA

Loewe was born in 1846 in the workshop of Enrique Loewe Roessberg, a German leatherworker who settled in Madrid. Nearly two centuries later, the house still sets the industry benchmark for nappa — the full-grain Spanish calfskin that earned its name long before the LVMH acquisition in 1996. The Jonathan Anderson era (2013-2023) turned Loewe into a fashion powerhouse without breaking the atelier link: the Gate is the clearest expression of that blend, half saddlery heritage, half contemporary silhouette.

Gate sizes and variants

The Gate comes in every configuration the house produced: Mini (20 cm), Small (24 cm), the Dual with a convertible crossbody strap, the Top Handle with its sculpted grip, the Gate Pocket (chain pouch) and the zipped Baguette. Limited runs include the Paula's Ibiza embroidered editions, Studio Ghibli (Totoro) capsules and the Anagram Rainbow drop. Compare with the Puzzle, Amazona and Flamenco before you commit.

Materials: nappa, the house's signature

Gate bags run in pebbled calfskin, smooth box calf and woven raffia depending on season. Core colours: tan camel, black, scarlet red, rust orange and ivory. Loewe nappa — recognisable by its softness and density under the hand — remains the most reliable quality marker on any Gate, and a decisive one on the secondary market.

Pre-owned Gate prices start around €400 for a well-loved Mini and climb above €1,800 for an unworn Top Handle — roughly 45 to 60% below the €2,050 boutique retail of the Gate Small.
