The Sylvie draws its name from a 1969 Gucci archive piece that Alessandro Michele reissued for the Spring-Summer 2016 runway, then redrew in 2020 with a boxier silhouette and a slimmer chain. Its green-red-green Web stripe — borrowed from equestrian saddle girths — paired with a gold saddle buckle loop make it one of the most recognisable bags of the Michele era. 1969 heritage and signature details

The Sylvie pulls two codes from Gucci's equestrian vault: the woven Web stripe lifted from a horse's girth strap, and the Horsebit-inspired saddle loop that secures the flap. Depending on the edition the Web is sewn flat, removable, or embellished with embroidered bees, stars and floral appliqués — hallmarks of the early Michele collections. Inside, a beige GG jacquard lining, a small engraved "GUCCI" padlock and a leather-mounted serial plaque are the core identity markers buyers should verify.

Sizes and materials

Four formats circulate on the secondary market: Mini (approximately 20 × 14 × 8 cm, chain strap), Small (25 × 17 × 8 cm), Medium (28 × 20 × 9 cm) and a small number of Top Handle variants with a short carry handle. Smooth calfskin dominates — hibiscus red, black, cream, dusty pink — but GG Supreme canvas, patent leather, velvet and floral prints all appear regularly. For a first Sylvie, a Small in smooth black calfskin is the most versatile option; Mini chain versions in patent or embroidered editions trade higher.

At retail the Small Sylvie sits around $2,590 and the Medium around $3,300, with full-leather editions pushing toward $4,000 depending on the colour and hardware. How to authenticate a Sylvie

Sylvie-specific checks: the saddle buckle must be solid metal, cleanly engraved "GUCCI Made in Italy"; stitching runs at roughly 8–9 stitches per inch without gaps or fraying; the internal leather tab carries a six-digit serial matched to a style reference. Post-2016 pieces ship with a controllato card in a dedicated pouch.
