Launched in late 2009 and propelled into the spotlight in 2010 by Riccardo Tisci, then creative director of Givenchy, the Pandora was conceived as the exact opposite of its structured sister, the Antigona: asymmetric pillow silhouette, wide buckled strap, twin zips and a front leather tab with engraved logo plate. Tisci wanted a relaxed urban day bag that captured the Y2K aesthetic and black minimalism of the era. The Pandora became the cool shoulder bag of the early 2010s, photographed on Liv Tyler, Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett. Today, over 40 authenticated pre-owned Pandora bags are in stock on JoliCloset, starting around €300.

Sizes and variants

The Pandora line is built around four formats: Mini (short shoulder or pouch), Small (~30 cm, the most hunted on the resale market), Medium (~38 cm) and Large for travel use. Two cult variants round out the family: the Pandora Box, a rigid box-shaped version with top handle and slim shoulder strap — now the collector's piece — and the Pandora Pure, with cleaner lines and a front metal closure, leaning more formal. There are also Pandora backpacks, clutches and matching small leather goods.

Leathers and materials

The signature leather is grained calf, soft and prone to patina, perfectly matching the slouchy drape Tisci was after. The house also produced Pandora bags in waxed smooth calf, suede, python, embossed crocodile and even star-print or studded canvas — strong series from the 2011–2014 Tisci collections. On the second-hand market, black grained and burgundy dominate; studded and printed editions have become vintage pieces riding the indie sleaze wave and the 2010s revival.

Resale value

At retail, the Pandora Medium in grained leather sat around €1,600, and the Pandora Box around €1,900. On JoliCloset, a well-loved grained Pandora starts around €300, a Small in very good condition runs €450 to €700, and a black Pandora Box in very good condition tops €1,200. The model was gradually phased out of the boutique catalogue after Tisci's departure in 2017, so its value first stabilised and has been climbing again since 2024 — primary-market scarcity and 2010s nostalgia are driving demand.

Authenticating a Pandora

Our workshop checks the front "Givenchy Made in Italy" metal plate, the serial number engraved inside (often on the back of a leather tab), the regularity of the seams, the action of the twin YKK zips and the condition of the leather — often slightly softened with age, which is not a flaw but a signature of the model.
