Chloé Marcie Bag — Saddle, Hobo, Suede, Leather | JoliCloset
Launched in 2010, the Marcie marked Chloé's return to the slouchy-saddle DNA of the Phoebe Philo years, after the Edith/Paddington era. Its signatures: a soft silhouette with visible saddle stitching, two rounded front pockets, and the patina that grained leather develops over time. Fifteen years on, the Marcie is still one of the brand's resale best-sellers — over 50 authenticated examples are currently listed on JoliCloset, starting at $340.
Sizes and Shapes
The Marcie comes in several shapes. The Saddle with flap and long shoulder strap is the most iconic, in Small (~21×16 cm) and Medium (~31×23 cm). The Hobo, with short handles and a slouchier body, is shoulder-worn, also in Small and Medium. There is a compact Crossbody, the cult Mini Marcie (~17 cm) — particularly sought-after — and a Marcie wallet that carries the same saddle stitch. For the full handbag range, see our Marcie handbags.
Leathers and Materials
The Marcie is, above all, a grained calfskin bag — that material is what creates the signature patina over the years, and it absorbs micro-scratches without showing them. Suede versions are rarer on the resale market and more delicate: avoid them for daily commuting in unpredictable weather. A handful of smooth leather, python and bicolor runs exist as limited editions and command higher resale prices. On grained pieces, check the corners, front-pocket trim and strap — typical wear spots.
The Marcie on the Pre-Owned Market
The Marcie has been quietly phased out of the current collection, which is gradually turning it into a near-discontinued classic. End-of-production retail sat around $1,690 for the Small and $2,150 for the Medium. Pre-owned, expect $340-$650 for older or worn pieces and $650-$1,200 for clean examples. The Marcie pairs naturally with the Paddington and Edith in Chloé's "slouchy family". For the wider catalog: Chloé handbags.
Authenticating the Marcie
On each Marcie we check saddle-stitch regularity (alternating saddle stitch, never a standard machine seam), the embossed "Chloé Made in Italy" tab inside, the internal serial number, the leather clochette with its gold key, and clasp finish (front pockets don't actually close — that's by design). Anything that looks off triggers extra photos and, if needed, a listing rejection.
