Hermès: Superb scarf titled "La Vie à Cheval"
Designed by Laurence Bourthoumieux (Toutsy) EN 2001. Unique edition, highly sought-after model in very very good condition.
The term chivalry was first used to refer to specialists in horsemanship and horsemanship.. The members of this warrior elite of the Middle Ages formed a class distinct from that of the peasants and the clergy.. They also distinguished themselves from each other by their talents as riders and fighters.. Fast and powerful horses, splendid and formidable weapons, reliable armor was the outward signs of wealth of that time.
From the 12th century, chivalry now defined a whole way of life. A knight had to be generous, courteous, brave, delicate and bold. The Perfect Knight, on his white horse, stood up for the poor and rescued damsels in distress. This way of being corresponded to the chivalrous ideal: courtesy.
The fundamental rules of the chivalrous code were as follows:
* Protect women and the weak.
* Defend justice against injustice and evil.
* To love and honor one's country.
* Defend the Church at your own risk.
So there was a "Knightly Spirit".
If the law of arms prescribed how to act in battle, in the twelfth century, some knights became jugglers (minstrels). Inspired by their love songs, several knights made a vow of gallantry to the ladies. It doesn't matter that they are married because in the Middle Ages, marriage was more about business than feelings. True love was wanting someone you could never marry.
This courtly love is one of the strangest aspects of chivalry. Knights performed great feats just for a lady's smile. A noble lady tied her scarf around the arm of her knight who vowed to fight for her in a tournament.
in a word, these people spent their lives on horseback. This is exactly what was captured by Toutsy on this square, in splendid and very refined colors whose matte purple margin and Parma frieze in the form of an openwork cornice encloses 4 panels on a "burnt bread" background. All in shades of blue, of gray, parma and white.
Each of them is a painting in itself representing the knight going to help the poor (ON THE TOP CORNER LEFT), the knight in full tournament (top right) ; the knight at war (at the bottom left) ; then the gallant knight (at the bottom right). Well are ubiquitous fortified castles, swords, spears and standards with famous coats of arms.
Difficult to describe this square so much for its graphics rich in detail, only for its colors of extreme refinement. A wonder !!!
