Hermès Scarf Pre-Owned Authenticated | JoliCloset

An Hermès scarf is identified by three signs: 100% natural silk, hand-rolled hem, ©HERMÈS signature printed within the design. The house has been releasing roughly 12 new designs a year since 1937; JoliCloset lists 2,130 pre-owned Hermès scarves, from the great classics to the most coveted discontinued prints. Average price around $310, from $70 for a Twilly to over $1,800 for limited editions and rare vintage carrés.

Formats and how they're worn

The 90 cm carré in silk twill (about 75 g) is the archetype — tied as a scarf, as a headband or around the neck. The 70 cm carré in mousseline or lighter twill handles more easily. The Twilly (5 × 86 cm) doubles as a thin scarf, a hair ribbon or a bag strap wrap. The Gavroche 45 (45 × 45 cm) ties as a pocket square or around the wrist. The cashmere-silk shawls (140 × 140 cm) extend the range into winter pieces.

The iconic prints

Brides de Gala, drawn by Hugo Grygkar in 1957, is the best-selling carré in the house's history. Casaques by Vladimir Rybaltchenko (colorful jockey silks), Quadrige, Della Cavalleria, Le Voyage de Pythagore and Sieste au Paradis by Annie Faivre rank among the references. On the secondary market, 1960s-1980s vintage and limited editions (anniversary issues, artist collaborations) often command higher prices than current re-releases.

Authentication and care

Our team checks every scarf for the hand-rolled hem (always rolled with the warp, never cut), the artist's signature, the design title woven into the print, the ©HERMÈS mark and the twill hand. A well-kept Hermès scarf lives 30 to 50 years: stored folded away from light, steamed flat to remove creases, cleaned only by a silk-trained dry cleaner.
