Hermès: Superb silk square titled "Les Cavaliers d'or"
created in 1975 by Vladimir Rybaltchenko and reissued in 1991
This scarf fabulously captures the jewelry of the ancient Scythian peoples of the Eurasian steppes, from Ukraine to Altai, passing through Kazakhstan.
The Scythian culture is mainly known thanks to the tales of Herodotus.
According to the legend related by Herodotus, the 1er man named Targitaos was born in the desert country of the Scythians of the union of Zeus and a daughter of the Borysthene river. He had 3 Threads Lypoxaïs, Arpoxaïs and Colaxaïs, the youngest of 3.
One day, 3 gold objects, namely a plow with a yoke, a hatchet and a cup fell from the sky. the 2 older brothers failed to take them because the objects ignited when they approached. Gold therefore repelled 2 older brothers. He’s only the youngest of the brothers, Colaxaïs, who was able to take the sacred gold because he had not burned it, as a result of which he became king. The common name of these 3 brothers is Scolotoi. The Greeks called them "Scythians". Colaxaïs divided his kingdom between his 3 Threads and each of them became the king of his territory. Gold will become for this group of nomadic peoples, the symbol of strength and power.
Sacred gold will always be kept by the Scythian kings in the largest of 3 kingdoms.
The archaeological remains discovered to date show us that these Scythian nomads left "deer stones" and rocks engraved with animal motifs, but also graves (called "kurganes") containing treasures of incredible wealth and know-how, like the pectoral in gold which decorates this square in its center (4th century BC.JC, is located in the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine), or the gold comb (4th century BC. JC, is at the Hermitage Museum), or the torques that intertwine the breastplate as well as shield ornaments…
The whole presented on a "Hermès red" background, gold lets its wealth burst, like no other color. the composition tag has been removed
