Pre-Owned Louis Vuitton Vanity Cannes | JoliCloset

The Cannes bag — also called Vanity Cannes — is a particularly sought-after collector piece in the Louis Vuitton catalogue. Coming from the line of cylindrical Monogram canvas cases derived from 1920s travel toiletry kits, it was reinterpreted in 2019 as the modern Vanity in leather. On JoliCloset, available Cannes / Vanity pieces cover both vintage Monogram models (1990s-2000s) and contemporary Empreinte or Monogram reissues.

Cannes / Vanity versions

The historic Vanity Cannes (24 × 19 × 19 cm) is a cylindrical Monogram canvas bucket with top zip, beige canvas lining and a flat vachetta leather handle. Originally conceived as a travel toiletry case, it has settled into collector status. The contemporary Vanity PM (19 × 12 × 10 cm), introduced in 2019 by Nicolas Ghesquière, adopts a structured rectangular shape with silver or gold S-lock closure, embossed Empreinte leather or Monogram canvas. The Vanity MM (24 × 16 × 12 cm) follows the same aesthetic in a larger size.

Canvas, leather and care

On vintage Vanity Cannes, coated Monogram canvas holds up extremely well — it is usually the vachetta handle and the interior lining that show the passage of time. Modern versions in embossed Empreinte leather are more sensitive to edge scuffing but offer a more premium feel. The interior lining on contemporary Vanity bags — powder-pink microfiber — cleans easily but retains cosmetic marks: a key check before buying.

Pricing and scarcity

The vintage Vanity Cannes has become a speculative piece: examples in good condition usually trade around $1,200-2,200 second-hand, with excellent condition pieces going beyond $3,000 depending on provenance and vachetta state. The modern Vanity PM (boutique retail above $2,700) sits on JoliCloset between $1,600 and $2,400 depending on colour and condition. Limited editions — Vanity Game On, Vanity Multicolore — quote above original retail because of scarcity.

Authenticating a Cannes / Vanity

On vintage versions, the date code is engraved on a leather tab sewn inside, behind the zip. Saddle stitches are regular in beige waxed thread on Monogram. The Monogram canvas must be strictly aligned to the central axis, the metal feet (when present) screwed in and signed LV. On contemporary Vanity bags, the S-lock is engraved Louis Vuitton on the back, the date code is integrated in an internal tab and the edge-paint finish (red or tone-on-tone) must be even, with no drip or visible touch-up.
