The Twist, launched by Nicolas Ghesquière in 2014 with his first Louis Vuitton collection, takes its name from the signature clasp: a metal "LV" that pivots on itself to release the flap. A structured chain-strap shoulder bag, it is the piece that brought Epi leather back into the maison's modern language after years off-stage.
Sizes: Mini, PM, MM
The Twist Mini (16.5 × 12 cm) is the trend-driving size with younger collectors — worn on a short chain. The Twist PM (23 × 17 × 9.5 cm) is the icon, fitting a phone and a slim wallet. The Twist MM (23 × 17 × 9.5 cm with extra depth) adds capacity without losing the structured silhouette. The integrated gold or silver metal chain runs through a leather shoulder rest.
Leathers: Epi, Empreinte, exotics
Signature Epi leather, launched by Louis Vuitton in 1985, remains the Twist's historical material: black, cherry red, mimosa yellow, khaki green, powder pink. Discontinued seasonal colours gain value rapidly. Monogram Empreinte (Monogram embossed into full-grain calfskin) offers a softer, more contemporary version. Twist Vernis, Twist exotic (alligator, crocodile) editions and Jeff Koons collaborations sit as collectibles in their own category.
Pre-owned vs retail pricing
A new Twist MM in black Epi retails above €4,800 in boutique. On JoliCloset, authenticated examples start around €1,000-1,400 for PM Epi pieces in very good condition and reach €2,200-2,800 for recent MM. Compare with other structured Ghesquière pieces such as the Capucines or with a classic like the Alma.
Authentication
On Twist bags produced before 2021, the two-letter four-digit date code is heat-stamped inside, generally on a leather tab under the flap. From 2021 onwards an RFID chip replaces the code. Our experts verify the weight and marking of the LV clasp (engraved "LOUIS VUITTON Paris made in France" in very small letters), the saddle-stitch regularity, the Epi grain and the chain drape.
