The Coco Handle debuted in Chanel's 2015 Cruise collection, designed by Karl Lagerfeld for the Dubai show. The idea was elegant: marry the diamond quilting and CC turnlock of the Timeless with a stiff braided-leather top handle and a detachable chain shoulder strap. The result carries three ways — in the hand, on a short shoulder strap, or crossbody — bridging a daytime top-handle and an evening flap. Chanel quietly discontinued the model around 2022-2023, which is why secondary-market prices have tightened. Sizes and variants

The Coco Handle was produced in four sizes. The Extra Mini (~15 cm) is the rarest, released in limited capsules. The Mini (19 cm) and Small (23 cm) are the most sought-after day sizes, with gold or silver chains depending on season. The Medium (29 cm) is the more practical shoulder format. Chanel repeatedly released Cruise editions with a python insert on the top handle, plus pastel runs, metallics and the staple black caviar and light beige. Tweed and woven-leather editions are scarcer and fetch a premium.

Materials: caviar, lambskin, python

Most Coco Handles were made in caviar leather, whose pebbled grain resists daily wear and keeps its structure — the safest pick on the pre-owned market. Lambskin versions look more luminous but mark more easily; inspect corners and the area under the handle carefully. Python and exotic editions were produced in small runs, trade at a sharp premium, and require CITES paperwork to leave the EU. When buying, always check the braided handle first — that's where wear appears earliest.

Retail crossed €4,600 for the Small and €5,600 for the Medium before the model was pulled; exotics sat well above €10,000.
