Launched in 2014 by Silvia Venturini Fendi, the By The Way reinvented the Boston bag with a longer, more structured silhouette and hand-stitched Selleria leather. Sizes and variants

The By The Way Mini (27 cm) hangs on a two-tone web strap. The Medium (32 cm) is the reference size, A4-friendly. The Regular Selleria version with visible saddle stitch is even more structured. Limited editions often add one or two leather mini-charms, “FENDI ROMA” embroidered straps or contrast leather plaques.

Leather, Selleria or exotic

By The Way exists mainly in smooth calf, grained leather and hand-stitched Selleria. Smooth-leather versions age well as long as deep scratches are avoided; Selleria gains patina without losing structure. A few croc and ostrich pieces exist at high price points.

Buying By The Way pre-owned: price and value

Expect $1,200–$1,800 for a Mini in smooth leather, $1,800–$2,800 for a standard Medium, $2,500–$4,500 for a Selleria version. The bag holds value well, particularly Selleria editions and seasonal colours (powder pink, red, blue).
