The Galliera is one of the most sought-after Louis Vuitton hobos on the resale market: produced primarily between 2007 and 2014, discontinued ever since, it offers a soft, curved silhouette — the wide flat natural Vachetta strap drapes over the shoulder like a scarf. Its drape-y Monogram canvas, without internal frame, makes it both iconic and comfortable — and the maison has never replaced it in the current catalogue.
Galliera PM, GM, Azur
The Galliera PM (39 × 26 × 14 cm) is the reference size — large enough for daily use, soft enough to settle in the crook of the arm. The Galliera GM (47 × 30 × 16 cm) plays the catch-all tote card. All versions share the same defining feature: a large half-moon zipped patch pocket on the front, the visual signature of the model. The main closure is a centred magnetic snap, no flap.
Canvases: Monogram, Damier Azur
The Galliera was produced mainly in Monogram canvas with natural Vachetta trim — flat strap, base, hardware tabs. A Damier Azur variant existed for spring/summer, rarer on the secondary market today. No Empreinte, no Damier Ebene: the Galliera stayed loyal to these two canvases. Compare with other vintage Louis Vuitton hobos such as the Tivoli or the Looping.
Pre-owned vs retail pricing
As a discontinued model, the Galliera only exists second hand. On JoliCloset, authenticated examples start from around €550-800 for PM Monogram in nice condition, €750-1,100 for GM, and €900-1,300 for the rarer Damier Azur in very good shape. Its valuation holds thanks to growing scarcity and the absence of any successor in the current collection.
Authentication
As a pre-2021 model, the Galliera carries a two-letter four-digit date code heat-stamped inside, on a leather tab stitched to the lining (often near the top opening). Our experts check the saffron-yellow stitching, the Vachetta condition of the flat strap (the most patina-exposed element), the "LOUIS VUITTON Paris made in France" stamp and the canvas softness (the Galliera should not feel structured).
