Dior Book Tote

The Dior Book Tote was launched in 2018 by Maria Grazia Chiuri for her Cruise 2019 collection presented at the Château de Chantilly. Inspired by the shape of a university tote — roomy, unstructured, with two short handles — it is embroidered all over on a jacquard Oblique canvas. The original version requires more than 1.5 million stitches and over 37 hours of atelier work — a figure documented by the house itself. With 129 authenticated pieces in stock, it is the most represented Dior bag in our catalogue today, from €1,200.

Sizes and formats

The Book Tote comes in four sizes: Mini (horizontal clutch format, ideal for essentials), Small launched in 2022 (26.5 × 21 × 14 cm), Medium (36 × 27.5 × 16.5 cm — A4-friendly everyday size) and Large (42 × 35 × 18.5 cm — weekender). The Medium remains the most sought-after, sitting between work tote and light travel bag.

Canvases, embroideries and colours

The blue-beige embroidered Oblique canvas is the founding version and still the most iconic. The house has since multiplied the embroideries: floral Toile de Jouy, Mille Fleurs motifs, animal embroidery, Dioriviera silhouettes, houndstooth capsules and custom embroideries with the buyer's first name. Quilted cannage calfskin editions also appear. Signature colours: navy blue, black, latte, pearl grey and powder pink.

Retail and pre-owned value

At boutique, the embroidered Oblique Book Tote sits today between €2,750 (Mini) and €3,500 (Large), with haute couture embroideries (Mille Fleurs, multicoloured Toile de Jouy) exceeding €4,200. On the authenticated pre-owned market, the Mini starts around €1,200, Medium in good condition trades between €1,800 and €2,600 and Large between €2,200 and €3,100 — a 30 to 45% saving versus retail. Custom name embroideries sell faster when the lettering is legible and neutral.

Every Book Tote is verified before listing: density and regularity of the embroidery (a Medium contains close to 1.5M perfectly aligned stitches), hot-stamped Christian Dior Paris on the inner leather tab, full serial number, cream-canvas lining quality, tension of both leather handles and symmetry of the embroidery on both faces.
