The Bottega Veneta Jodie takes its nickname from Jodie Foster, photographed in the 1990s and early 2000s with an intrecciato hobo that insiders had already christened "the Jodie". Daniel Lee made it official in 2020 for his debut collection, in a maxi version with supersized weaving and the now-iconic knotted handle. Carried by Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber and most of Milanese ready-to-wear, it became one of the pillars of the Bottega revival. Our catalogue currently lists nearly 100 pre-owned Jodie bags.

Sizes, shapes and variants

The Jodie comes in four main sizes: the Mini top-handle (28 × 23 cm), the in-between Teen (36 × 30 cm), the classic Medium (49 × 31 cm) and the Large XL hobo for travel. The knotted mini pouch extends the language to evening dressing. All share the same fluid handle that loops into a soft knot under the shoulder — no extra strap, no visible clasp — a radical graphic statement for 2020.

Materials and colours

Nappa lambskin in maxi intrecciato weave remains the founding material. Daniel Lee also produced the model in smooth calf for a more structured shape, in suede, in the cult "Teddy" shearling, and in capsule editions in python or sequins. Signature colours range from black, fondant, chalk and caramel to the famous parakeet yellow-green that became the visual marker of the maison under Lee.

Pricing and resale value

At retail the Jodie sells between €3,100 (Mini) and €4,800 (Large). On JoliCloset, pre-owned prices range from around €700 for a well-worn Mini to over €3,500 for a Large still tagged — typically 30 to 40% below boutique depending on condition. Signature colours from Lee's first season, especially parakeet and caramel, hold their resale value remarkably well.

Every Jodie is reviewed before listing: regularity of the intrecciato weave (one artisan needs roughly two days to braid a Medium), hot-stamped "Bottega Veneta — Made in Italy" on the interior leather, serial number, tension of the handle knot and consistency of the lining are all verified.
