Launched in 2019 by Daniel Lee, the Bottega Veneta Cassette compresses everything Lee brought to the house into a single silhouette: padded Maxi Intrecciato, strict rectangular geometry, a chunky aged-metal chain. It's the bag that pivoted Bottega from Maier-era minimalism to the Lee chapter — and the one Jacob Elordi turned into a pop-culture moment. The Mini Cassette (~18 cm) is the compact crossbody, worn over the shoulder. The standard Cassette (~26 cm) is the reference format — phone and wallet fit. The Padded Cassette adds the signature pillow-quilt depth and a larger volume (~31 cm). The Chain Cassette swaps the leather strap for a thick weighted metal chain. The Cassette Pouch (~44 cm) is the evening clutch silhouette, and the Cassette Belt Bag wraps around the waist.

Maxi Intrecciato and materials

The most common build is nappa lambskin in Maxi Intrecciato — strands measure 2-3 cm across, puffed on the Padded version. Suede, denim, embossed crocodile, and the rarer technical nylon also turn up in seasonal capsules. Lambskin keeps its softness but marks at the corners; suede stays fragile against water.

Retail and the pre-owned market

New, the Mini Cassette starts around €2,800, the standard Cassette around €3,400, the Padded climbs to €4,200, and the Pouch tops €4,800. How to authenticate a Bottega Cassette

A few checkpoints: Maxi Intrecciato strands should be uniform with no visible glue at the tips. The chain is heavy — solid plated brass with an aged finish; a light, shiny chain is suspect. Inside, the BOTTEGA VENETA / MADE IN ITALY heat-stamp sits on a leather tab with a serial number on a second small tag. Closure is magnetic on most versions; no exposed zip on standard Cassettes.
