Bolso Bottega Veneta Jodie

The Bottega Veneta Jodie first appeared in 2005 under Tomas Maier — its name a tribute to Jodie Foster, photographed carrying the bag at the Cannes Film Festival. Daniel Lee put it back on the radar in 2020 with his signature Maxi Intrecciato weave — leather strands two to three times wider than Bottega's classic Intrecciato from Vicenza. The Teen / Small (~36 cm) adds room for a paperback. The Medium (~46 cm) crosses into everyday duty. The Large (~58 cm) and the Maxi (~71 cm) are full-on work hobos — laptop and A4 fit. Materials and the Maxi Intrecciato weave

The most common build is supple lambskin in Maxi Intrecciato — woven strands measure 2-3 cm across, versus 6 mm for the heritage Intrecciato. Suede, popularised under Daniel Lee, produces the most editorial silhouette but is fragile: water marks and wear show fast. Shearling and denim turn up in seasonal capsules. The metallic-leather Gold Jodie appears occasionally in archive listings.

Pricing and the pre-owned market

Retail starts around €2,800 for the Mini, €4,200 for the Medium, and tops €5,200 for the Maxi. On JoliCloset, pre-owned Jodie bags in very-good condition typically sit 30-50% below boutique, depending on size, leather and wear. The Candy and Mini in lambskin hold value best; suede tends to depreciate faster because of its fragility.

How to authenticate a Bottega Jodie

A few checkpoints: Maxi Intrecciato strands should be uniform with no visible glue at the tips; the knotted top handle is hand-braided, tight and clean — no rigid core, no clumsy folds. Inside, the BOTTEGA VENETA / MADE IN ITALY heat-stamp sits on a leather tab with a serial number on a second small tag. Most versions show no external metal hardware — the closure is a magnet or open top.
