Launched in 2015 with Alessandro Michele's debut collection at Gucci, the Dionysus is the bag that installed the Michele aesthetic in fashion culture. Its name and twin tiger-head spur closure reference the myth of Dionysus, said to have crossed the river Tigris on a tiger's back. Dionysus sizes: from Super Mini to Medium

The Dionysus comes in four main sizes. The Super Mini (16.5 × 10 × 4 cm) works as a small shoulder or crossbody bag. The Mini (20 × 14 × 5 cm) is the most common and most resold format. The Small (28 × 17 × 9 cm) holds an A5. The Medium (35 × 27 × 14 cm) is the structured day bag. GG Supreme canvas, leather, suede, embroidery

The Dionysus has been produced in a wide range of materials. The most iconic version remains the GG Supreme canvas with the green-red-green Web stripe sewn flat. How to authenticate a Gucci Dionysus

Key checkpoints: the tiger heads of the spur closure are antique-finished metal with fine detailing (eyes, ears and snouts clearly defined), never blurred or overcast; the chain uses flat links interlaced with leather that is sewn through, never glued; the Web stripe is woven grosgrain in strict green-red-green proportions; the serial number is engraved on an internal leather tag, two lines; models from 2018 onwards carry an NFC chip under the lining.
