Launched in 2016 by Alessandro Michele, the GG Marmont is the bag that redefined Gucci's silhouette during the maximalist era: chevron-quilted leather, antique-gold double G, chain-and-leather strap. Marmont sizes and silhouettes

The line comes in several formats. The Super Mini (18 × 13 cm) works as an evening pouch. The Small (26 × 15 cm) is the most common and most resold size. The Medium (31 × 19 cm) holds an A5 format. The Maxi (35 × 24 cm) is built as a semi-structured tote. Quilted leather: lambskin or smooth calf

The Marmont has been produced in two main leathers. Lambskin, ultra-soft and luminous, scuffs at the corners more easily and softens with use — best if you want a very elegant bag for occasional wear. Smooth calfskin, firmer, holds the matelassé crispness better and is the more durable option for everyday use. Seasonal editions in velvet, suede, patent and metallic leathers have also been produced. At retail, the small Marmont exceeds €1,850, the medium €2,150, and the maxi €2,950. How to authenticate a GG Marmont

Key checkpoints: the double-G engraving must be sharp, with a clearly defined recess between the two Gs, no burr; the chevron quilting is aligned and symmetrical on both front and back panels; the chain uses flat links interwoven with leather, with "GUCCI made in Italy" engraved on the closure; the serial number is engraved on a leather tag stitched into the interior lining (two lines of digits).
