The daimyo were the lords of feudal Japan, whose coat of arms (inscribed in a circle, image of perfection) often included plants or animals. The crane brings happiness and long life. Here it is framed by ginkgo foliage and the intersection of samurai swords. The instrument of combt and hara-kiri here symbolizes the heritage of bravery and honor bequeathed by the princes of the rising sun.
