Hermès Le Géographe Damask Silk Square Scarf 90cm Pink White Blue Beige Green

Hermès Carré / Scarf titled "Le Géographe" by Christiane Vauzelles, 1994 edition. The pattern represents a world map centered on Australia, surrounded by flora and fauna, with portraits of explorers and ships, as there was a time when geography was a science in motion: it was less about reading maps than establishing them.
Let us remember Nicolas Baudin who commanded the 2 corvettes "Le Géographe" and "Le Naturaliste", sent by Bonaparte 1st Consul to survey the southern lands of Captain Cook, killed in the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) in 1779.
In the four corners of the square are Charles Alexandre Lesueur, painter of the expedition; Matthew Flinders, English captain of the "Investigation" who crossed paths with the mission; François Péron, zoologist; and Nicolas Baudin himself (died in 1803, during the return).
The dominant colors are pink, beige, blue and green. The scarf is in good general condition and has a beautiful shine mainly due to the damask silk. It should be noted that damask silk is no longer produced because its production cost would be too high. Which makes it a rare scarf!
