The Wind Tree is a tribute to the huichol people. The Huichol, or Wixáritari, live in Mexico, in the western Sierra Madre. Their religion is a polytheism that deifies all that emanates from nature. He is a guide for the shaman and will help him find the power and wisdom to be able to speak with the gods.
The Kieri, or the wind tree, also known as Solandra brevicalyx. This one tree gives a halunogenic flower that is sacred to the huichol people. He is an incarnation of their wind god, Kieri Tewiyari. For them, this plant can help achieve the highest level of consciousness.
The Huichols have a great regard for all the birds, whom they perceive as messengers between the gods and the men.
The Huichols admire Wealika, the eagle, the most magnificent bird. The eagle is perceived as the incarnation of a goddess known as Mother Eagle, Mother of Heaven and Queen of Heaven. But also, the deer (the spiritual guide, Kayumahli), who leads shamans on the paths of their visions and teaches them how to acquire their particular knowledge.
The male and female deer always appear in pairs, symbolizing the unity of men and women in their spiritual journey. The stag mother, Tah Tay Mahjrahlee, is the guardian spirit, the most important animal of shamanism Huichol.
Then jaguars, wolves, snakes, salamanders, turtles, toads, scorpions, sun, fire, flowers ...
Finally, the green peyote cactus appears in almost all paintings of huichol son. It is the symbol of life, food, health, success, luck and the acquisition of shamanic powers. The peyote is considered a gift of Gods to men, to enlighten their lives and to make them penetrate the mystical realm.
The Mexican artist Montserrat Gonzalez-Lugo drew on traditional embroidery and threaded wool images to describe the essence of Huichol spirituality: In the center, the drawing represents the eye of God (the protector) surrounded by the four elements, marking the four corners of the Huichol world.
