Hermès Silk scarves Dark red Cream Bronze

300€

Superb Hermès square titled “Le Triomphe du Paladin”, Created by Julia Abadie in 1999. Will be reissued in 2002, which attests to its success.
The paladin is a knight who has reached one of the highest ranks. He is part of a religious order and bearer of the sacred power of faith. However, this term has undergone a fairly significant evolution, in the sense of a sacred knight going on a crusade on behalf of a prestigious and military order, the name paladin will eventually evoke a more humanist concept of knight-errant (perhaps an amalgam with the Latin palabundus which means 'wandering', 'who travels constantly') defending the widow and the orphan.
This name comes from Roman times. Under Diocletian, the body of the Praetorian Guard (unit of elite soldiers responsible for protecting general officers), made up of Roman infantrymen, was replaced by a mounted contingent of barbarians. Their possession of mounts gave them the name of equites (rider pull), term also used at the time to designate the Order of Roman Knights. Now this contingent was housed near the portico of the Palatine Schole in Rome ; time and the deformation of the language contributed to the creation in Low Latin of the word palatinus (palace guard) to designate the elite knights constituting Charlemagne's personal guard. This square was part of 5 other squares (“Kosmima”, “Byzantine Skies”, “Skyros”, “Golden Strands”, ‘ 1821 "), of the unprecedented exhibition “The Out of the Box Museum”, for the 35th anniversary of the Benaki boutique “From Antiquity to Modern Design”.
Maison Hermès indeed participated in this exhibition with these six unique silk scarves which were designed by the Greek artist and designer Ms. Julia Abadie. Each square featured in the exhibition had distinct elements, designs that could be found in the exhibits in the permanent collection of this historical museum in Athens, Greece.
From “KOSMIMA” (1994) featuring stunning historic jewelry, with Byzantine geometric patterns in “Byzantine Skies” (1987), just like on this square, the viewer can easily recognize and appreciate the inspiration of these artifacts and the Greek heritage on modern art.
Surrounded by an elegant pink margin and a frieze decorated with precious stones, we discover 5 riders armed with swords and spears and 4 castles (girdles also), whose architecture is very specific, letting us imagine the paths and battles fought to get from one to the other trying to always defend the oppressed.
The colors are beautiful and refined. Beige and burgundy background enhanced with antique gold, different blues, green, beige, golden beiges, garnet… The central gold panel surrounded by burgundy and antique gold, runs loose, thus highlighting the other colors. A wonder !
