Pre-Owned Louis Vuitton Bucket Bag | JoliCloset

The Bucket is, alongside the Noé, one of Louis Vuitton's historical bucket bags — popularised from the 1980s onwards on the silhouette originally invented in 1932 for carrying champagne. Its cylindrical shape, flat base and drawcord closure make it a timeless classic. JoliCloset lists over 790 authenticated pre-owned Bucket bags, primarily in Monogram canvas with Vachetta trim.

Petit Bucket, Bucket GM, Marais

The Petit Bucket (PM, 23 × 25 cm) is the most versatile size — worn over the shoulder with the Vachetta strap falling naturally. The Bucket GM (27 × 28 cm) plays the everyday tote card. The rarer Bucket Marais adds two outer Vachetta patch pockets. Modern versions (separate from the NéoNoé) sometimes include a removable shoulder strap. All variants share the flat inner pochette tied by a cord — frequently sought after on its own when missing.

Canvases: Monogram, Damier, Epi

The Bucket comes mainly in Monogram canvas with natural Vachetta leather base, strap and drawcords — patinating honey-gold with use. Damier Ebene offers a more discreet version, with chocolate trim. Limited Epi leather runs (black, red, ivory) also exist as vintage. The beige or ecru fabric lining is typical of 1990s-2000s production.

Pre-owned vs retail pricing

The classic Bucket has been discontinued by Louis Vuitton several times, which makes most pieces vintage. On JoliCloset, authenticated Petit Bucket Monogram bags trade between €350 and €500, Bucket GM between €450 and €700. Marais and coloured Epi versions sit above €600. An excellent value play on soft-handle Monogram bags.

Authentication

Most Bucket bags on the market pre-date 2021. The two-letter four-digit date code is inside, heat-stamped on a leather tab stitched to the lining. Our experts check the drawcord condition (the part most exposed to wear), the patina of the Vachetta strap and base, Monogram alignment around the body, and the regularity of saffron-yellow stitching.
