Saint Laurent Cassandra Bag

The Cassandra is Anthony Vaccarello's defining icon: launched in 2020, it lifts the YSL monogram — nicknamed "Cassandre" after typographer Adolphe Mouron Cassandre, who drew it in 1961 — and places it on the front as a metal lock-clasp. Formats and variants

The Mini (~20 × 14 × 7 cm) is the envelope-mini format with rigid handle or chain strap; perfect for evening and city lunch. The Medium (~24 × 18 × 8 cm) stays compact but holds phone, wallet and keys — daily use. The Top Handle Medium (handbag with woven leather handle) is roomier, also shoulder-format. The Phone Holder on chain strap is the 2022 signature phone clutch. Cassandra wallets and small accessories share the same metal-monogram front.

Leathers and colours

The Y-grained calf (light chevron quilt) is the most distributed edition: durable, hides micro-scratches, the safe choice secondhand. The smooth calf (box calf) is more minimal but marks more easily. Velvet and embroidered satin editions appear in capsule collections. The dominant palette is black with gold or silver monogram, then chalk white, taupe and chocolate brown. Some tonal pieces (powder pink, burgundy) circulate.

Authentication specifics

The YSL monogram must be perfectly aligned, with a mirror finish at the metal centre. "Saint Laurent Paris Made in Italy" stamp on the interior tab. Serial in "XXXXXX-CGV-NNN" format. The shoulder chain uses bevelled links; counterfeits often use flat chain. On quilted editions, the chevron inversion at the centre marks authenticity.

Pre-owned pricing

A new Cassandra Mini retails around $1,900; secondhand between $750 and $1,200. The Medium drops from $2,400 new to roughly $1,000 to $1,650 in very good condition. The Phone Holder, $1,150 new, trades between $350 and $650. Sac de Jour, Sunset and Niki are the closest stylistic in-house alternatives.
