Saint Laurent Sac de Jour

The Sac de Jour is the quintessential modern Saint Laurent icon: launched by Hedi Slimane in fall-winter 2013, it defined the structured tote that the rest of luxury leather goods copied in the years that followed. Trapeze tote, central leather band with YSL padlock, multi-compartment interior split by a rigid gusset. Sizes and formats

The Nano (~22 × 17 × 11 cm) is the mini, carried by the handles or crossbody with the included strap. The Baby/Toy (~26 × 19 × 11 cm) stays compact, hand or shoulder. The Small (~32 × 27 × 14 cm) is the most versatile everyday size. The Medium (~36 × 30 × 16 cm) holds a 13" MacBook and A4 documents — the work tote. The rarer Supple drops the rigid structure for an intentional slouch.

Leathers available secondhand

Box calf (smooth rigid leather) is the original Slimane edition — perfect structure, but marks at the corners with use. Grained calf tolerates daily wear better and hides micro-scratches. Croco-embossed leather and python appear in seasonal editions and hold value. Suede (Souple) needs a waterproofing routine. Classic colours (black, dark anthracite, blush, blood red) resell more easily than acid seasonal tones.

Authentication specifics

"Saint Laurent Paris Made in Italy" stamp inside, on a separate leather patch in the first years. Engraved YSL padlock on the front — the angle of the logo and metal finish are key markers. Interior serial in "XXXXXX-CGV-NNN" format. Shoulder strap included as standard. Italian Lampo zipper on all internal compartments.

Pricing and investment

A new Sac de Jour Medium retails above $3,500 in boutique; secondhand it lands between $1,300 and $2,000 for a classic leather in very good condition. The Small sits between $1,000 and $1,650, the Baby between $800 and $1,300, the Nano between $520 and $920. Exotic editions stay above $2,200. Cassandra, Sunset and Niki are the closest in-house alternatives.
