The Dior Bobby bag was unveiled by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Pre-Fall 2020, named after Bobby — Christian Dior's bichon, photographed beside the couturier throughout the 1950s. Its half-moon silhouette, clean flap and magnetic clasp hidden under a buckle stamped with the founder's CD initials made it, within a few seasons, the contemporary counterpart to the Saddle. Sizes and variants

The Bobby is produced in three core sizes — Small (18 × 14 × 5 cm), Medium (22 × 17 × 6 cm) and Large (27 × 19.5 × 8 cm) — plus the later East-West, a longer horizontal shape that has quickly become the most sought-after silhouette on the resale market. Every version shares the same antiqued-metal CD buckle concealing a magnetic closure, and an adjustable leather strap — often offered with embroidered options on seasonal capsules.

Materials and colours

The Bobby is crafted in Italy. The most common materials are smooth box calfskin, which best preserves the crisp crescent shape, and soft grained calf, more forgiving for daily wear. Midnight blue or beige Oblique jacquard monogram canvas alternates with rarer editions in cannage-embossed leather or hand-painted calfskin. Signature colours are black, cream, camel, denim blue and — on capsule editions — powder pink and cherry red.

Pre-owned price and value

At boutique, a new Bobby Medium in box leather sits around €4,000; pre-owned and authenticated, it typically trades between €1,500 and €2,500 depending on condition. A new Bobby East-West retails above €4,500 and resells on JoliCloset between €2,200 and €3,500, a 30 to 45% saving versus retail.
