Pre-owned Givenchy Antigona Bag | JoliCloset

The Givenchy Antigona bag was designed in 2010 by Riccardo Tisci, artistic director of the house since 2005, as a tribute to Sophocles' tragic heroine. Its trapezoidal silhouette with sharp angles, folded side wings and rounded studded leather handles broke with the slouchy hobo of the late 2000s — the Antigona set an architectural line that defined Givenchy throughout the decade. Carried by Madonna, Kim Kardashian and later Hailey Bieber, it sits in the catalogue alongside the Pandora. Over 100 authenticated pre-owned Antigona bags are currently available, from €350 up to around €1,600.

Sizes and variants

The Antigona comes in five main formats: Nano (the mini, worn cross-body), Mini, Small (the bestseller — around 33 cm wide, a true shoulder bag), Medium (38 cm, the workday archetype) and Large for travel. From 2020, Matthew Williams added the Antigona Soft in unstructured leather and the embossed 4G-logo capsules. There is also an Antigona clutch and a smaller Antigona pouch. Hardware is almost always palladium-tone silver; sport-leaning editions introduce woven webbing straps.

Leathers and materials

The signature leather is the house-trademarked Pebbled Leather grained calf — dense and structuring, it is what holds the bag's hard corners. Also produced: glossy smooth calf, palmellato calf, suede, embossed crocodile and a handful of python editions. On the second-hand market, the grained version is the most sought-after — it ages without micro-scratches, while the smooth calf marks more easily but develops an elegant patina. Cult colourways: matte black, burgundy, nude, navy and the bright red of the Tisci-era collections.

Pricing on the resale market

A new Antigona Small reached over €1,950 at boutique by the end of the Tisci era. On JoliCloset, a well-loved grained Antigona starts around €350, a Small in very good condition sits between €600 and €900, and a near-new Small or Medium tops €1,600. The pre-owned discount versus retail typically runs 30 to 50 %. Pre-2017 pieces signed by Tisci — often identified by the gold-stamped logo — have become collector items since Sarah Burton took over creative direction in 2024.

Authenticating an Antigona

Our workshop systematically checks the "GIVENCHY PARIS MADE IN ITALY" hot-stamped tab inside, the serial number engraved on the leather lining, the regularity of the saddle stitch, the Italian Lampo zip with logo puller, the tension of the palladium-studded handles and the characteristic thickness of the pebbled leather.
