Pre-Owned Ferragamo Gancini: Bags & Loafers | JoliCloset

Drawn in Florence at the end of the 1960s, the Gancini motif — Italian for "little hook" — started life as a leather-goods clasp before becoming the most recognisable graphic code at Salvatore Ferragamo. You now find it cast in gold-tone metal on bags, engraved on loafer bits, woven into the monogram canvas, and even folded into the ornament of the Vara bow. Our pre-owned catalogue currently holds 1,871 authenticated Gancini pieces, from €35 to €2,929 for rare archive examples, averaging around €260.

Bags, loafers, monogram canvas: the Gancini universe

Leather goods carry the bulk of the inventory — shoulder bags, buckets, totes and mini flaps built around the horseshoe clasp. The Gancini bag line lists 1,871 authenticated pieces, while the Gancini shoes bring the penny-loafer silhouette topped with the horseshoe bit, in smooth calf, suede and patent. A handful of Gancini jewellery pieces round things out.

Signature materials and finishes

Ferragamo works the Gancini across three dominant textures: vegetable-tanned grained calfskin from the Tuscan workshops that develops a patina over the years, suede for winter releases, and the Gancini jacquard canvas — a raised hook print that covers totes and weekender bags. Hardware alternates between polished gold-tone and palladium, always engraved "Ferragamo" or "SF". Pieces from 1969 to the 1990s still carry the full "Salvatore Ferragamo Made in Italy" stamp; post-2022 items align with the shortened "Ferragamo" rebrand.

Authenticating a pre-owned Gancini

The hook itself is the first tell: solid metal, crisp engraving, tight hinge. On leather goods, check the heat stamp inside the main compartment and the 4-to-6-digit serial code inside the zip pocket. Lining stitching is even, the saddle stitch is dense and regular, and bottom corners should stay structured. Our authentication team clears every piece before it goes live.
