The Gucci Padlock bag was launched in 2014 by Frida Giannini and quickly became one of the signature bags of the mid-2010s, carried by Gigi Hadid, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lawrence. Its hallmark: a genuinely functional metal padlock set on GG Supreme canvas or on embossed Guccissima leather — the GG monogram Giannini redrew in 2006. Three main sizes: small (~25 cm, shoulder), medium (~30 cm) and large (~36 cm, A4 capable). Adjustable leather strap, gold chain or detachable crossbody, depending on the version. The small is the most liquid format on the resale market; the medium is the best capacity-to-profile compromise.

Materials and finishes

The pre-owned catalogue spans beige/ebony GG Supreme canvas, embossed Guccissima leather (black, hibiscus red, brown, white), smooth solid leather and the highly collectible print editions: Bengal tiger, Blooms floral, Bee and Garden. The flap, secured by an arched gold or silver padlock engraved "Gucci" with a genuinely working lock, opens onto a beige microfiber lining with one zipped pocket.

Price and value on the pre-owned market

The small GG Supreme retailed at around €2,100 at boutique when new, the medium around €2,450. On JoliCloset, expect €600 for a good-condition canvas piece and up to €1,400 for a near-new Guccissima leather. Print editions (Blooms, Bengal, Bee) hold stronger appeal among collectors — short runs that have been out of boutique for years. Buying pre-owned typically saves 50 to 70% versus retail.

How to authenticate a Padlock

The 6-digit serial is embossed on the interior leather tab, followed by "Gucci" and, on the reverse, "Made in Italy" in italic. The padlock should feel heavy, engraved "Gucci" with a lock that actually opens, the two keys supplied in a dedicated pouch. Finally, check the perfect GG pattern alignment around the flap and stitch regularity — Guccissima is always embossed into the leather, never printed on.
