The shapes to know

The rectangular Hourglass echoes the silhouette of the Hourglass bag on the temples. The round and butterfly BB frames in thick acetate carry the monogram in relief — the most recognisable piece. Materials and identification

Italian acetate (Mazzucchelli) on the majority of models, metal on aviators and Sledge frames. Temples engraved "Balenciaga Made in Italy" with model number and size (typically 99/01 or 53/22 depending on shape). Lenses in CR-39 or treated nylon, marked "CE" and 100% UV inside. When buying, check engraving regularity and hinge condition.
